The Last Romantics A Paris Love Story Park Avenue Series Book #5 edition by Ruth Harris Romance eBooks

How many chances can one man take expecting his one true love to wait? Quit a few evidently. The best part of this story was reading about the changes happening around the world during this time span. Life in Paris after WWI...returning home a hero. However, even I got tired of waiting for the main character,Kim,to grow up. We watch a good man self destruct more than once. Fame and money seems to bring out the worse in many people. Self indulgence was his way of life. Finally Kim gives up his self pity and self worship. He gets things right at last when returning to his true love in Paris during WWII. Kim seems unaware of the unnecessary danger he puts himself in more than once reporting the war by radio. I found myself shouting "NO! Don't be a fool!" All the while knowing he was.

The Last Romantics A Paris Love Story Park Avenue Series Book #5 edition by Ruth Harris Romance eBooks Reviews

An extremely captivating, tenderly written story of love, life and all the struggles involved therin! The historical context is compelling and the conflict between agony and ecstasy is gripping!

Harris weaves an intriguing tale using the two great wars to bookend the lives of a cadre of characters from a various walks of life in America and abroad!
One of my favorite author's is none other than Ruth Harris. I've read all five of her Park Ave series and can honestly say all of them were a great reading experience. Once you start you won't be able to stop reading until you reach "The end" of the fifth book of the series, guaranteed. Thank you Ruth Harris for providing readers like me, such a wonderfully addictive series.
Where to start... I love this time period. I love how she added real people like the Fitzgerald's etc. One of the things I noticed right away is that Kim and Scott were manic depressive, their behavior is classic for very creative people and they are extremely hard to live with. Unfortunately Zelda was also nuts, for Nicole to continue to love him through the years, I felt sad for her, she always seemed to fall in love with the wrong guy.
The first few pages I thought ... oh oh this is not going to be for me, too melodramatic with puppy love ... but I was curious so I kept reading, very well written, excellent description of the exciting and roaring twenties in Paris. I know the area where the story enfolds and could almost follow the characters as they went about Paris, a lot of similarities with the life of Coco Chanel and her rise to stardom but that didn't bother me. I am going to read one of the other books in the series.
Where to start? At the end - the end of World War I, that is. That's when Kim Hendricks, American hero and legendary war reporter, meets Nicole Redon, a gifted fashion designer determined to create clothing women will love to wear, in a celebration-crazed Paris. They spend several weeks together exploring the City of Lights and each other before Kim must return to America. This is where Kim's courage escapes him. He doesn't tell Nicole he's engaged to be married; he simply promises he'll return.

Kim does return a few years later, and against her better judgment, Nicole takes him back. By now he's a best-selling novelist and she's the toast of the fashion world thanks to the simple elegance of her designs. Kim is also married. Nicole has never married, though she's come close, and she easily falls into the role of his mistress. From Paris to New York to Africa to the French Riviera, through the Roaring Twenties, the stock market crash and the Dirty Thirties, they pursue a romance that sets the world abuzz. The book ends at the beginning of World War II in Europe, when Kim's courage returns in full force. He goes back to his reporting and pursues the Nazis with a vengeance, while Nicole lives in abject fear for his safety.

Harris skillfully weaves fact with fiction in the creation of this tale of love, loss, success, failure, war and peace. If you're looking to bury yourself in a big old historical novel full of larger-than-life characters, this is the one.

The characters come to life in this story. This historical fiction brings to life the love and struggles of two complete strangers in two completely different worlds. A romance begins in quick order but the reality of lives lived on two continents with previous commitments deliver romance and suspense with the interjection of other characters into the story. Promises are made but life goes on. You will enjoy immersing yourself into this book and rooting for a solution that works for all involved.
This is an unexpected book. It is an immersion to the atmosphere of the beginning of the 20th century. It was like "hearing" the charleston and the tango music while you're reading. It gives a lot of information of all the political and cultural highlights from the early '20s to the '40s and a glimpse of the unique and unconventional lives of writers of a certain status such as the main character, and of some legendary ones as well. Nicole was a woman that managed to make her dream come true in the detriment of her personal happiness. Kim was the moody writer, typical to the authors of his era, such as Fitzgerald, who appears in this book as well. Nice development of characters, nice setting, well developed secondary characters as well.
